My question is this, is there a general feeling of being of finally getting to that state of deep meditation and if so how many deep breaths does it take... urgh, too many minds says the Samurai, off with his head!
Brilliant Adam... a great first post of the day!
And Knuckerball too, I love this story, I have to keep looking up Americanisms but that's cool !
Thank you. Susie. I’m guessing you’ve been there or headed in that direction. (No idea on the breath count. 😆) If you get the number lmk and I’ll put the time in.
“…float without noticing and recording …” I was just reading this line when someone rang the doorbell. When I returned to my reading, I thought for sure I previously read the word record. For half a moment, I added the word float and pictured meditating while watching a record spin without volume, as the stylus floats across the vinyl grooves. Maybe not a bad idea for those of us who are music lovers , except when the record is scratched or there is lint on the stylus. Deep down, some of us are too much of a perfectionist and neurotic enough to worry about doing it just right. Luckily I have grown out of that stage of my life, I think.
“I am thinking of nothing if you don’t count the thought of nothing.” Adam - this is a perfect encapsulation of the meditation experience!
I’m out of the habit but this actually makes me want to start again. Your mind is wonderfully untamed. Also, “the dark warehouse of some overcast non-union Canadian city” made me LOL. I was just watching that show. (Those shows.)
I’ve fallen terribly behind on your stack. My inclination is to go back to where I fell but should I instead start with the baseball story that’s not baseball story?
I'm a case study in the challenges of meditation. Possibly, I was trying too hard. I don't meditate as religiously now, and find it is "going better," but I'm not keeping score so closely, which, come to think of it, might be part of the solution. I'm glad you thought the non-union Canadian city was funny. I chuckled a tiny bit (I know you're not supposed to and all that) when I thought of that. Also the blade going two inches into the wood. :-)
I would give the Knuckleball Artist a peek. As I wrote, abandon the moment it feels like it might be a slog, but at least get to meet Phineas. He's a character I really connected with as a writer.
Love this. Completely relatable. Yesterday’s tricks never seem to serve today’s promise. Also, your insights and wit always brings me joy. Thank you. 🙏🏼
Yes. That’s been my experience of meditation though there’s no way I could write about it with such incisive wit.
Rubbish. 😀
Lovely. How maddening a calming exercise can be. I might have to use your R.M.G. someday. I will give you full credit.
If you provide me with a mantra below then you don't need to give me full credit. I will repeat it a 100 times and see if anything special happens.

😇 Ommmmmmmmm....
