🚨 Whoops! Through a small posting hiccup, this post could not be accessed by non-paying subscribers. it should be open to all. Please use this link instead:
“Nobody gets through this life unscathed. Maybe that’s the beauty of it. Maybe life is nothing more than singing love songs into the deep as Orcas ever circle in the gloom. Maybe that fine balance between sanctuary and danger, that safe haven in the firelight as hands are held and the dark is repelled, as death circles in the gloom, maybe that is where dignity and true love reside. So rave on, rave on and sing your song, till your lost and bursting, then sing some more, then sing some more.”
Oh, ugh, Kimberly. Non Paid Subscribers could not comment for some reason and I have to kill this thread and recreate on a new post. Merde.
Can you add this recommendation again on the new link? A link to the new version is above. Also! Please add a sentence or two about why you love Jonathan's work and this excerpt in particular. It's wonderful context for someone going through these in the notes.
And while I'm asking for things: can you restack the replacement?
Hi Adam… I’ve just received this message from Lor in comments on Notes..
« Morning Susie! I am a longtime subscriber of Adam’s, but not paid. I am unable to submit or comment, as he has put this post behind paywall, paid subscribers only. I assume he does not want it that way if he is offering any and all to submit. I am unable to comment and ask him if he wants this as subscriber’s only. If you would take a moment, to pass this comment to him. Have a lovely day! »
I’m sure also that you didn’t mean to turn on Paid Subscribers only for this?
In reply to your request, je reflechisserai! Kimberly m’a déjà piqué mon premier choix!
This is really weird. It shows as "open to comments for all" – paid or unpaid. It even makes a point of warning me about that.
The only thing that I can think of is that I decided to use a "Thread" post not a regular post and that has somehow caused this. This is not good because this needs to be a living thread.
I'm still unemployed at the moment. I'll try to figure it out.
Here is my entry ( are we allowed to enter more than one?)
It goes without saying, this entire story was a masterpiece.
Listening to “Belle Nuit, o nuit d’amour”
“ἀγάπη – In infinite beauty there is infinite sadness.”
I could see it all play out in words, and boy, I could feel it all. I chose the final scene;
“In his mind, he paddled through paper canals, past the first-year students on the fondamenta. He paddled through black balloons. The moon danced up and over him.
He paddled out from San Marco and into the rippling black sheets of the watery lagoon. Stars bobbed in his eyes.
He paddled into nothing, and he paddled into everything. He let memories of his wife and daughter sweep through him like starlight.
He thought of infinite beauty and infinite sadness.
Then, together with his father and his daughter, the gondolier paddled into the stars, pulling the Earth behind him in his wake.”
Oh, I'm tickled to death and nothing could make me happier than a Song of Myself here – this is only about other people's work (so, not me and not the person contributing.) With that said, can you add anything new to the new link (noted above?)
It was your post . I wrote up a reply, took awhile, then ready to comment, (Dang!) paid subscribers only. Which I totally understand but seemed contrary to your request. I saw the one you added to Notes, and it still said subscribers only. Then Susie restacked with a comment and that is where I left the reply to Susie. You said you just sent me something? I just read your chat. But did not receive anything additional . Unless you ‘allowed’ me to comment specifically. If so, then you should probably take that back so I can tell if it still says subscribers only, back to square one.
Ok, I just reproduced the problem. Ugh. It's only when you try to comment that you see the paid notification. what really stinks is that it isn' ta setting because it indicates that "anyone can comment." I'm going to recreate this post and fix it elsewhere. ugh.
The fact, btw, that you just left this comments shows that you can now post as a paid subscriber, but this is a bit of a mess and I need to fix it. Again, ugh.
