Well, Adam - you’ve done it again! Laughed my ass off. Appreciated the Jim Croce remembrance - always one of my favorites.

Adam, you’re far too good to worry about stuff in a week that featured a lost and found jillion dollar jet, more than enough assclownery (no copyright - feel free) from everywhere else, and a so far absolutely bewildering Substack update.

We’ll all be lucky to hold on to any subscribers/readers....

You will not lose me as a subscriber. Not as long as I can pull the Taylor down from the wall.

Thanks for the kind words.

Crickets! I love it... Croce takes me back - he was my dad's favorite.

The contest of wills with Ms. Crosby sounds ferocious, I'm surprised anyone so sublime as to contrive "A-dumb" would lose her shit over "Craptchitt" but who can say what will prove our undoing? I was always an angel, naturally, until the simultaneous introduction of my 6th grade teacher - a tall drink of Mormon - and our new PE teacher, a former football player with a magnificent beard; one can't be an angel while harboring the thoughts that I did.

A note on Crickets. We all hear them more than you know. The world is too full of distractions and people are just too busy. Reading requires such a single-threaded focus. It seems wasteful to all of us who have four threads open at a time as we're listening to music while we're texting a friend and browsing for a slow-cooker on Amazon until the massive video file we've uploaded is complete. That's our world these days. Too much, too fast, too available.

I've posted so many pieces that echoed all the way down to the bottom of the well here on Substack. It hurts, even though I don't want it to. Every time, I have to take a couple of days to recalibrate my expectations and remind myself that it's not my job to make people read or even like it, only to do the work. Hey, when you start to feel bad, just think of me Sisyphus as I push a new episode of serial novel up the hill each week for god knows how many weeks for the five people (counting my mom) who will read it! Keep doing what you do. You're the only person who can.

I loved this piece Adam. You have a gift for memoir. I have fond memories of Croce too. He had such an amazing warmth and energy and also a fantastic mustache. If half of what you say in this story is true, you were a little fireball - your poor parents!

This is definitely a one-foot-in-front-of-the-other activity.

Mom counts, too.

Sam Elliot should have played Jim Croce. He had the moustache for it.

Thank you for the kind words – and the Sisyphian support for my work (this isn't for you, either)

Jeez, the tension between you & Ms. Crosby is as glorious as it is unbearable. I’m getting some Russel Crow in Gladiator vibes from Adam as Ebenezer, and I love it. And on the subject of loving it, no politics, I beg! Also biggest thanks for reminding how much I love Jim Croce ❤️

Yes, that picture of Russel Crow taking all comers. You win the prize!

If you want subscribers write politics. If you want connection write virtually anything else.

I suspect we would have made a good team, although I'm guessing you got better grades.
