This was lovely. What you did is a fantasy I had but never actualized. I didn't have the resources or the requisite amount of courage to take a leap like this without them when my kids were small. I can't imagine how it must have been to have that experience together as a family. It's nice to live vicariously through memories.
Oh wow. That's intense. I can see how that kind of event would be a catalyst to do something so grand and impractical. It's still amazing that you followed through with it.
Short/Wed, long/Saturday works for me - who is this "Brand" person? They sound insufferable.
Gide hauled a piano around with him in his travels, I always thought it was the height of bougie, but you make it sound...well, still sorta bougie... 😘
Adam - just do what you want, what you feel like doing. I’m enjoying the orderly disorder. It’s like a trip to a really upscale Golden Corral that’s always open and you can show up in your jammies and no one even notices....
All extemporaneous, I often write just before publication, never earlier than the day before. I look over the previous week’s stuff and make it up as I go along.
Benefits of a legal education and some really great musicians for mentors/teachers/bandmates. Research comes easily to me and links are basically what lawyers term “citations” - citing something means there’s a prior research of authority basis for it, and most of what I write could be viewed as advocacy for a position. Sort of. Plus I’m having an absolute blast!

What is your schedule? Do you keep/target one? You’re writing outside of Substack too, right?
Every Friday morning, America-time. Yes, in theory.

😝 just discovered there is no emoji for pajamas. Please dress for comfort.
You’re extremely disciplined about your schedule. And you get a lot in there. Your writing schedule must be insane.
