This month, I’m only posting a brief excerpt from my story. If you haven’t read Pigeons, you may not want to listen—this is a full-on, final-scene, give-it-all-away spoiler.
I hope this recording helps you hear the voice I heard while writing. The story depends so much on the narrator’s voice that the only way I could approach the monthly audio was to try to capture that voice rather than simply read it aloud. Recording the audio without the voice—and with it—were equal challenges.
“When caught between two equal choices and struggling to decide between them, ask yourself which would make the better story.” I read that in a bookshop twenty years ago. I remember where I was standing but don’t remember the author.
