Well done Adam! Too many great lines to list them all. You did have a lot to unpack in this chapter. Many key moments that will become a major shift in the story.

“The whole thing was “goosebump beautiful,” as they say in Iowa.”

“…but she held her tongue”

“Give me your hand, son.”

“You’re our closer, son”

“You’re my closer.”

“…he removed his grimy glasses and cleaned them very slowly.”

“…when the boy closed his eyes, he heard Yankee Stadium”

“Something was terrible. Why was something terrible? Everything had just been rotten from the start.”

“…lose the game”?

“It was the game or it was the boy.”⚾️🏟️🐝🌷

🛞🛞🛞 …noooo!

And then the lines that were simply there for the fun of it, and they were fun to read , the water cooler, “…so quiet you could hear the cotton candy”. Ok, I’ll stop.

Next chapter btw is called “The Boil.” Unfinished business there.

Thanks, Lor. The cotton candy was a fun one that showed up. ❤️I had prizes popping out of cracker jacks boxes too but they didn’t make the cut. I’m glad the our/my wasn’t lost to time and scant readership. We’re winding down now. 2 more chapters and an epilogue and I’m going to go put my feet up. 😆 subscribers can, too.

Winding down, but ramping it up at the same time. I have no idea how you’ll end the story, but looking forward to finding out. You probably know this already, I had no idea that Cracker Jacks started off with baseball cards as the prize. Coincidentally, a friend happened to mention it recently. Personally, I lusted after my sister’s prizes, but she would never trade with me.

“Pop.” I can hear it now, a harmless-sounding noise. But the Sleepmobile will hiss all night long in despair. Or maybe I will.

I’m with Lor, Adam. Too many great things to list. The pitch. Reginald. The soft tire. And all the lines pointed out. Love this installation so much.!!
