This is a fecking awesome story. I need to slow down and relish it more but can’t help plowing through chapters.
The Time in a Bottle inverted chord almost ended me a few months ago. I’ve written a grand total of two essays here on Substack, and one of them is about that chord.
Ugh this is a good one, Adam! Maybe my favorite so far? I just love the thought of seeing your normal life with new eyes, and finding it wonderful.
"One night I stayed in the attic of some parish priests. There was animal – let’s politely call it scat – on the top blankets of the bed where I had to sleep. The Camino isn’t all morning fog and waves from children with missing teeth."
"My family’s movements in the hotel suite are as captivating as snorkeling through a swarm of tropical fish."
"They are laughing. Our children are increasingly independent of their parents. They are together. The sibling bond has taken root, a deep hope granted. By design, they now have each other through the course of their lives."
Adam, this one really moved me.. the passion for generational parallels, the passing them on like bread crumbs..
Ah yes time in a bottle
Thank you for sharing this
Thank you 🙏 for the acknowledgment. ❤️
As always, so lovely.
