I’m back, hope you enjoyed ‘the Blues’ this morning. I have a quick question,( I’m raising my hand in the front row) what kind of cake goes with candied kumquats?
“They are my people”. I love that quote, I actually said the same exact thing two days ago, when someone was visiting and admired our framed photos on the wall. Oh, and please tell Melanie, her table setting is stunning!
I sincerely hope you felt as special as I did on October 8, 2024 @5:30am, when you ( with the help of Chloe H, and several others) gave me my 15 minutes (and a smile that will last a lifetime) of fame on your Substack. I will never forget what I was doing on the exact moment your post came in with ‘my dog face’ on it, along with the word, Lor. I shed a few tears of pure joy tucked in between total embarrassment. I just welled up when I scrolled through your posts to search for the year). No, I will never ever forget. Happy B-day! I hope you claimed the entire week ahead to celebrate.
I’m heading outside, temp is 34 and the heavens are brewing up a good storm. The wind is howling with a northern breed song , and I wish you did this in audio, to take along with me.
I’ll be back, to read the rest! In the meantime, here’s a little tune , turn up the volume!
Happy belated birthday. 60 is special. I threw myself a big party, invited everyone I love to eat and drink, and enlisted our local bookstore to set up a table to give them my favorite books. Your table looks amazing, the cake sounds heavenly, and yes, all the time in the world. . . .
It was a dream come true. I even indulged my fantasy of working in a bookstore by writing a little card for each book (with the bookstore's logo) about why I recommend it.
Happy Birthday Adam and Congratulations!! You certainly have crammed a lot in your first 60 and it sounds like a good start for the next! Well done you....
I am writing this on a post it for my bathroom mirror (a holy place) "I have a small handful of sharp regrets, but I wouldn’t swap them out, even if I could. It might have changed everything after." Happy birthday, Adam. Sounds like you did the day justice.
Thank you, Susie. There is some serious hospitality DNA in Melanie’s line. Off to see my daughter in England where she’s in a management training program at The Newt. In short, some very fine events at the house or picnic table for that matter.
What a stunning table setting and celebration, as lovely as you are, fit for a king who makes his own cake. Wishing you a grand spin around the sun. And please do tell us about Kamikaze 50 someday!
Thanks, Kim. Kamikaze 50 was a real self pity meltdown. I didn’t want a party. I popped all my balloons by myself. I could have gone and seen Stevie Wonder at MSG from Seattle and I sulked my way out of that, too. 60 was less eventful. 😆

I will send you a picture. Chocolate to answer your question. I made the cake and kumquats. Mel then added a whole foliage orange slice forest on top…
I was going through my brainstorm idea list for stories. In it was a one word story: “Lor”
🎶Haa-ppy Birthday to you🎶! 🎸🎹🎺🥁🎻🎶

Really enjoyed reading that. What else is there but to have made a life we want.
Thanks, Tommy. 💯
Happy Birthday Adam. Sounds like it was a beautiful celebration.
Special day. Friends for dinner at the house. Hard to beat. Thanks for the wishes.

What a brilliant idea giving away favorite books!

Omg! You are so organized and detail-oriented! I may steal this idea for 70 if i get there.
You'll get there. 😊
Wow you sure get around; we never know where you are. Makes more sense; nearly lunchtime. Enjoy! 3:14am here so time to turn in...
Sweet dreams 😴
Thanks Adam. Still up?? You must be a night owl like me and you are 3 hours ahead. I guess inspiration comes at all hours?
Ha! No! I’m in England at the moment. Pouring rain.
My niece turned six on the same day. Good folk, you two... Happy New Decade, Sir. Love from DF & I.
Mwah. I’m in England right now. Just arrived this morning. You guys aren’t in the southwest by any chance are you?
Southeast, m’dear. But a short skip to London, if you end up there…
Happy birthday Adam, hey, did you hear--60 is the new 58 and a half! That Rubik's cube image sure is a good one.
My little health app tells me I’m metabolically 61. Ready to throw the phone out the window but I have a bad elbow.
Got rid of my oura ring and my apple watch last year… haven’t missed ‘em

Thank you! Wonderful to see your name pop up!

❤️This was lovely to read. Thank you and I’m honored to be on your mirror. 😊 I think a lot about that idea.
Happy Birthday, Adam! What kind of guitar did you get?
A Strat. It’s hardly a collector’s item but it plays beautifully. I cannot plug it into the Mesa however in a NYC apartment. 😂
Belatedly of course, I wish you Happy Birthday Adam, may the next 364 days be wild, precious, and as memorable the celebration of the first!
PS You don't need me to tell you I'm certain, how lucky you are to have a wife so accomplished in hostess mode. Melanie, your table looks stunning!

This was fun! Happy birthday Adam. I’m guessing that the cognitive disconnect between interior and exterior age only gets bigger as the years go by…
Yup. It’s truly strange. Body and mind are headed in opposite directions. And yet… all good. 👍🏻

Sounds a lot like my Vertiginous 40. Hurrah for uneventful fullness!
Happy Birthday!!! Love your evening and your New Year plans!
Thanks so much. It was a very special night.
