The story of the story makes a great story.

Thank you, Ana! I wish everyone did this. I'm fascinated by the strange byways that get people to a finished piece of writing.

Your telling me, whose husband is a chiropractor, that you basically hunch and slump over your desk for hours at a time, well , your just asking for it. A really, really long chastising, but thankfully for you, I am holding myself back. No, you never mentioned the quote, I like it ! I would have done the same as Melanie, not mentioning the car. But I am no saint, I would have casually brought it up afterwards. Maybe more than once.

Re: Shawshank, same here, I have seen it more times than I can remember, about due for another. We bought a friend a huge poster from the movie for his 50th bday. You would have thought we gave him a Rembrandt, by the way he carried on.

The Green Mile; put it on your Lor recommended list. Let me entice you by saying, after you’ve watched the movie, you’ll want Tom Hanks to play Frank A.

Someday we will all gather and watch it together. I will maintain my best posture.

Ok, now I’m late back from my lunch break because I started reading this then couldn’t stop, even though I haven’t read Pigeons, which now I need to do but can I really get away with being even later….? Genius. Very much enjoyed reading Adam!

Ok. This is a great note. I love the idea that I made someone late back from lunch! Hahahaha. Now, go do your work. The pigeons will still be there.

I love how you run to your wife with every iteration. And then as soon as it has a mirror, you’re able to hear what’s not quite there yet. Brilliant.

I don't even think we need to listen that closely to each other at this point. If there is some level of attention towards each other, we consider it a small victory and return to our corners.

Sometimes, though, I get an, "Oh, I like that." Large victory.

“The complexity of grace.” Well, I think you got there. Really enjoyed reading your process notes — and Melanie’s barely contained excitement at your developmental updates!

Poor old pigeons... I'm imagining a few of them practising the skateboarding drop-in....

I need to get a video of it. It's completely charming. I think they think they are visiting a man in a human zoo who is looking out at them from his glass cage.

Indeed! It must seem so... "Oh look! Oh yes, it's morning, he loves his little table and papers at this time al m oat every day!"

Well, I was going to write a one sentence comment, but that would be totally unlike me, and a contradiction to my way too long replies. I was going to write, behind every great writer, is an extremely patient and kind partner (an ode to Melanie). But in the end ,I realized this story about how the hell a story comes about, is too brilliant and highly enjoyable to ignore. After reading, Afterwords: Pigeons, now I know your ‘tender’ underbelly side. Peering into your apartment window from a bird’s eye view, I can see you in deep thought, sitting at your desk, then over to the window with a pile of bird seed in hand, kind eyes for the lady in feathered red. Andy Dufresne climbing out the sewer pipe,I love that movie. But then there is also The Green Mile with Tom Hanks, another great one. I am guessing you have not seen it.

I might have quoted this before to you, but the dedication to my book on the Camino was going to be something I heard on the walk: "At the home of every pilgrim there is a saint." Still makes me chuckle. Literally, the day I left on my walk, the car broke down on her and there was some other disaster in the house. She hid it from me. See: a saint.

You wouldn't believe how terrible my writing posture is. My daughter when she still lived at home, used to come in correct my posture. She did the same thing when I played piano. it is not pretty. But, yes, deep in thought or... surfing the web as my writing time burns down. There's that little possibility as well.

Haven't seen Green Mile. Shawshank is one of my Top 10 films. It is one of those films I can watch repeatedly.
